Kumbhalgarh is a Mewar fortress on the westerly range of Aravalli Hills, in the Rajsamand district near Udaipur of Rajasthan state in western India. It is a World Heritage Site included in Hill Forts of Rajasthan.

Kumbhalgarh sanctuary lies at an altitude of 500 to 1,300m in the Aravali Hills and offering a commanding view of the historical Kumbhalgarh Fortress. The sanctuary derives its name from this fort. 


Fauna

  
The sanctuary is home to a variety of Wildlife. The wildlife includes the Indian wolf, Indian leopard, sloth bear, striped hyena, Golden jackal, jungle cat, Sāmbhar, nilgai, chausingha (the four horned antelope), chinkara, and Indian hare. The birds at Kumbalgarh includes the normally shy and untrusting grey jungle fowl. Peacocks and doves can be sighted feeding on grains scattered by the jungle guards. Birds like the red spur fowl, parakeet, golden oriole, grey pigeon, bulbul, dove and white breasted kingfisher can also be seen near the water holes.

Area Covered- The Kumbhalgarh Sanctuary covers an area of 578 sq Kms that extends in the districts of Pali, Rajsamand and Udaipur.
Location - The sanctuary is located at a distance of 90 kms from Udaipur. The nearest town is Falna that lies at a distance of about 25 kms.

Best time to visit- Though the Kumbhalgarh Sanctuary is open throughout the year, best time to see the animals is October to June. 

Famous For- Apart from jeep safaris to watch the rarely found Wolf, Kumbhalgarh Sanctuary offers you the flexibility of trekking/horse safaris in addition to the convenience of having a good glimpse of some popular historic items.
